For the third year running we were asked to design and produce the EIHL Playoff Finals programme. The flagship event of the EIHL season.

We had new branding guidelines to work with and we implemented the league’s style throughout the programme. 68 pages jam-packed with articles, stats and league content.

We designed and completed the whole thing within a week, and set up the final four team’s details, after the quarterfinals were completed on Monday, before print on the Wednesday!

Another great souvenir created for the EIHL by Freeman Design.

In collaboration with Zenith Print & Packaging, our creative director designed the Cardiff City Women’s match day programme for their two home matches against Wrexham Women’s FC.

With Wrexham’s new found status, due to their Hollywood owners (Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney) and their appearance on the TV Show “Welcome to Wrexham, the game was expecting a large crowd.

We helped to create the first edition of the women’s matchday programme for Cardiff City Women’s FC. A smaller 8 page programme as the first edition, then a larger 12 page for the second, with hopefully scope to increase in size into next season (24-25).

Back for the 2024-25 season, we again create the match night programmes for the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey Club.

Starting with a smaller 44 page pre-season edition, then leading into the usual 60 page editions. Again, designing and editing from scratch each week.

We were asked to create a 2 metre x 1 metre sign for the Forgeside RFC ground, that encompassed the Community Garden on the site. Also, a scoreboard sign in the same branding.

It had to be hardwearing for the elements, so we decided to use dibond aluminium for rigidity. Full colour printed in the club's new branding (which we also designed).

We created QR codes for their social media accounts and added these to the design.

The final finished product looks amazing at the ground and the colours look fantastic, even if we say so ourselves!

Back for 2024 and we were once again asked to create a poster book for the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey Club. A 2024-25 Yearbook with poster pages for all the current team members.

We utilised the new season’s branding to create a new bespoke designed front cover and the page layouts. We scoured the league’s photo gallery to find suitable photos for every player and coach before putting the whole book together for print.

The action photo pages were added as left hand pages alongside the new branding player headshot pages. These were all right hand pages when the book was bound and opened.

As part of our work taking over the match night social media output for the Cardiff Devils, we came up with some new GOAL graphics to use throughout the games.

We liaised with the club photographer to get some styled photos at the media day, then we created fun graphics for use.

We think these look amazing and certainly add another dimension to the social media match night experience!

We were asked by Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to create the logo for the upcoming Olympic Qualification games held in Cardiff.

This is the first time Olympic Qualification games has come to Wales, so were keen to incorporate the Welsh flag into the design somewhere. The Great Britain Union Jack had to take centre stage, for the Great Britain Ice Hockey Team, but the red, white and green of Wales was important to us (being a Welsh business).

We went through several design stages and ideas before settling on hand illustrated ice hockey silhouette. Showing movement and speed associated with Ice Hockey.

The process went through several approvals, from the GB hosts through to the IIHF in Zurich. Such an a exciting process to be involved in.

The final, approved design was then fully vectored in Adobe Illustrator for use on merchandise, jerseys and online. With the design set up as landscape, portrait, mini and condensed versions.

The logos were then used for merchandise (pin badges, plush toys, pucks, etc) and emblazoned on the GB player jerseys.

We also created a mono version, simplified for one colour use where necessary. Freeman Design are proud to be associated with Team GB Ice Hockey, IHUK, the IIHF and the Olympic 2024 committee.

We were asked to come up with a graphic to cover both doors on the entrance to the Cardiff Devils merchandise shop at their ice arena.

We utilised their current branding with some recent player photos, to come up with some great looking graphics.

These were then printed on to contravision material, so you can see outwards but not see inwards. This was to help cover the doors when the shop was closed.

We were asked to continue our affiliation with Vindico Arena in Cardiff Bay for 2024/25.

To create social media graphics for the arena, who are growing massively as a multi-functioning arena. From live ice hockey games, to ice skating lessons, to off ice events such as UK's Strongest Man shown live on Channel 5.

A new brand style to highlight the venue's progress.

The brief was to create some outdoor signage designs for the various beauty spots within the Monmouthshire County Borough.

We were given the MCC brand guidelines and the bi-lingual text, and the rest was left to us.

We then created the design layouts for printing onto weatherproof, easy clean, anti-vandal coated metal for installation.

The job was produced in conjunction with Zenith Media.

We were asked to help Forgeside RFC have a new look to their social media for 2024-25. They were recently promoted to a higher division and a higher standard of professionalism.

They wanted to stand out and have a uniform set of graphics. Some where they can add their own text as needed. We added solid panels to these for them to add in as needed.

Bespoke Next Game graphics were also created where we sourced the opposition team badges of them.

The black and yellow echo their team colours and the jerseys.

We were employed to create graphics for the 2023-24 season and the Cardiff Devils social media outlets, utilising a new style. The flames work so well on the black background.

Also created were some pre-season teaser graphics for player signings, before the main player signing graphic was released.

The graphics then evolved when the club rebranded with a new logo and design style. A new season and new branding means we get to have fun with social media output!

We were approached by the Elite Ice Hockey League to put together the match programme for the 2024 Challenge Cup Final.

Sheffield Steelers vs Guildford Flames, so the emphasis was on the colours orange, of Sheffield, and burgundy, of Guildford, for the style. Interleaving articles about each team for the programme to alternate between the teams throughout.

We created a bespoke front cover, and created the adverts for the sponsors and the back cover advert. We also sourced all the photos for the programme from our extensive back catalogue.

The Vindico Arena in Cardiff was being rebranded from Ice Arena Wales to the Vindico branding. We were asked to create social media posts for the countdown and for the events following the takeover. This section will be updated throughout the year.

We are delighted to be back as the graphic designer for the Sheffield Steelers match night programmes in 2023.

There was a new print partner, with new deadlines, but we were happy to liaise direct and sort out all the formalities for the organisation. Freeman Design prides itself in 100% confidence in us from all parties we work with.

In 2024, we created a Cardiff Devils advert for the new season for use on digital billboards around Cardiff city centre. Using the new branding style. This followed on from the previous year's design.

Working alongside Route Media in Cardiff, we set up the graphic to the required specifications and the final billboard looks amazing.

We were asked to create some social media graphics for player announcements in the run up to the 2023-24 season.

The club’s orange branding was key to the design, along with player action shots and a faded photo. Great designs that engage the fanbase and stand out to promote the club on social media

This then continued with graphics to promote their matchday programmes.

We were asked to design the raffle draw tickets for the 2024 EIHL Playoff Finals in Nottingham. The 50-50 draw and the four ‘shirt off his back’ draw tickets were required.

The 50-50 tickets used the league’s branding and the individual SOHB tickets were altered for their own team’s colours. The same league branding style, but with the colours altered in photoshop.

Printed, sequentially numbered and perforated by Northend Print in Sheffield. A great collaboration with this print partner.

Were asked to create the lanyard passes and room signage for the EIHL Playoff Finals. Continuing the branding throughout.

Lanyard passes were designed for a plastic material, with drill holes included for a sturdy material.

Signs were created for 400sgm stock with a lamination.

The Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra asked us to come up with a new logo to promote their latest promotion.

“Sing a Show with WMTO” was the name of the event, and we needed to make it look eye-catching and grand-looking.

We created a logo and then implemented it to graphics for social media use.

We were asked to rebrand the online presence for the Great Britain Ice Hockey Team at the IIHF World Championships 2022 in Finland. ** Update: our graphics were well received so the template was used again for the 2023 World Championships in Nottingham.

The GB team compete in the top tier of international ice hockey, against powerhouse teams like Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland.

We wanted to make the design patriotic for Great Britain, to applaud the massive achievement the country have made getting to the top level. Therefore, we incorporated the Union Jack flag heavily and used game photos, with a red, white and blue theme.

The graphics were supplied as editable PSD files, so their social media team could update daily with the minimum of fuss.

The Cardiff Devils engaged our services to produce a new collage graphic for the main bar wall at the Ice Arena Wales. This was large format on a very large scale!

The 12 metres x 3 metres wall needed to be covered with a new design, featuring players from the last 5 seasons and the multiple trophies won in that time.

We created a bespoke design in Adobe Photoshop and supplied a high-resolution file for branding by Molson Coors. We liaised with Molson Coors on behalf of the Cardiff Devils and took all the pressure off the client.

The final wall looks amazing and proves that nothing is too big for Freeman Design!

Packaging design for the UK clothing chain ‘All Saints’

They wanted a ‘worn and weathered’ effect throughout the packaging range. Everything from carrier bags, boxes and tissue paper to shoe boxes, advert boards and tags.

All mass printed in China and shipped to the main warehouse in Spitalfields, London.

Flyer design for a new start-up business. Clean, rustic and welcoming design required for weddings and celebrations. 

Also, a pull-up banner for use at their wedding fayres and open days.

The Blaenavon Horticultural Society asked us to create and print some colourful posters to promote their local event.

We had already designed their logo in previous years, so we incorporated this along with a gardening scene, hand drawn to coincide with the craft side of the show also.

We also printed A6 place cards to cover the various places and awards. Printed full colour on 300gsm uncoated stock.

All delivered within 3 days!

Created in collaboration with Zenith Media, we designed information booklets for the Aneurin Bevan Health Service.

Booklets to highlight all the services available at the local doctor’s surgeries. These needed to be easy to read and as simple as possible to understand.

We created a new brand style and then implemented across the range of booklets.

New dibond aluminium signage for Forgeside RFC clubhouse. The club wanted to brighten up the outside of the clubhouse to make it more inviting for supporters.

One sign was 2.9 meters long which we printed full colour and laminated for weatherproofing.

We designed the layout to fit the space and cleaned up/retyped the low resolution logo.

The printed signs were great quality and look amazing.

We were asked by the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey Club to help create a brochure for use at their Corporate Partnerships event.

We wanted to keep within their branding guidelines but add additional elements to the brochure to enhance the important elements.

The brochure promotes all the items that the club utilise for sponsors and we illustrated these in fun and eye-catching ways.

We love how this printed at A4 size. Saddle Stitched on 200sgm Silk Stock at full colour.

The Elite Ice Hockey League’s showstopper event is back for 2023.

We were once again asked to design and create the match programme for the weekend event. New title sponsors meant we had a new brand identity to adhere to and to create a product in keeping with the sponsors branding.

A full 68 page programme designed from scratch, with season reviews from all ten teams, plus stats and articles. We were responsible for choosing suitable photographs from the league’s official Dropbox, to accompany the articles.

We created the cover design and incorporated players from the ten teams in the league. Another great project that produced a superb printed souvenir programme.

This great children’s book was in need of some design inspiration by the author. They had the story illustrated but didn’t know where to start with putting it into an actual book. That’s where we came in….

We are lucky enough to be back designing the match night programmes for the new season. A bigger and better programme, increased to 52 pages of articles, photographs and kids pages.

We wanted to rebrand the programmes again to look new and different to previous years. Staying on brand with the club’s new 2022 brand guidelines though.

The use of the current branding is incorporated into the player images, using the grey face and full colour kit style.

The matchday programmes are back again for 2022-23.

For a new season we wanted to rebrand the programmes again, to look new and different to previous years. We looked to the club’s website and social media style for inspiration and replicated their current branding.

The aim was to increase sales further with lots of content and photographs. Using full page photos, for fans to get autographs after the games.

We were tasked with putting the Cardiff Devils home fixtures into a handy A5 flyer format. We set up the fixtures in the club’s branding and then created a great visual for the front of the flyer.

Typesetting all the fixtures and designing the artwork to match the club’s social media graphics.

We were once again asked to create the match programmes for the 2023 charity event. This year the charity has passed the £1,000,000 raised mark, what a fantastic achievement.

Penarth Tyres contacted us for help with some promotional leaflets. They need some design work and an input in to how to best advertise their sponsorship with The Cardiff Devils.

We utilised the company’s branding and created a bespoke leafiest for use as required. Printed on 200gsm silk stock.

We were asked to continue creating the matchday programmes for Abercarn United AFC. Following their promotion into the Ardal Southern League, a matchday programme is a necessity.

We continued with the black, white and red theme to match the team’s first choice kit colours.

We also supplied them with an online flip book version, for fans that couldn’t make the games and pick up a printed hard copy.

Vindico Arena asked us to create some pull-up banners and flyers for their promotional tour of the local Universities’ Freshers Week.

We created three types of flyer to advertise the different events they hold, and we made each flyer different so they stood out from each other.

The pull-up banners now stand in the arena main reception and they look amazing in full colour!

We also created some bespoke price lists for their new confectionery stands around the rink.

Designs created for Blaenavon Town Brass Band’s new pull-up banners. Using a mixture of old and new photographs, we created two 800mm x 2000mm PVC banners.

These were then re-designed, down in size ratio, for A4 Posters.

We created some A4 adverts for the Sportin Wales magazine, to promote the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey Club and Vindico Arena in Cardiff Bay.

Various bespoke designs for each were created, for them to choose something suitable. They went with the white action shot, and it looks great in the online magazine.

We were asked to create some standard social media templates for Goytre FC to use in the 2023-24 season.

The black and red colours of the club’s home kit was used to keep in line with their branding. Using player action shots in an ‘edgy’ style.

A bespoke sponsorship graphic was created alongside some ‘blank’ generic templates, for the club to add their own text as required.

A next game graphic template was also created.

We were once again asked to freshen up their social media posts for the coming ‘2023 season’ and make them stand out with some fun designs.

Their green branding was adhered to throughout the series of graphics. Created to fit all the major social media outlets, with the different aspect ratios required for optimal viewing online.

We were asked to create an infographic and poster for the Sheffield Steelers’ 2023-24 Elite Ice Hockey League Fixtures. They were to be used on their social media, as a download on their website and on their fans WhatsApp group. Along with A1 versions printed at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield.

To keep in line with the signing graphics we created for the organisation, we used the same design style and inputted the fixtures.

Two options were created for Home Games Only and the Full Season.

We were asked to create a one-off match night programme for Robert Dowd’s Testimonial game. We were supplied the text and some image and the rest was left to us.

We created a 48 page programme, packed with articles, photographs, stats and sponsors adverts.

We were asked by UK ice hockey player, Matthew Myers of the Cardiff Devils, to create some promotional flyers for his upcoming testimonial game.

We created a double sided A4 flyer and four separate A4 team sheets graphics. These were then printed and laminated on good quality card for sale on the night. Great for autographs too!

A great job to be a part of, and great that we could help out a legend of UK ice hockey.

After the enforced Covid-19 restrictions, the UK Elite Ice Hockey League was able to hold its annual showstopper weekend. The Playoff Finals are the culmination of the UK ice hockey season.

We were asked to produce the match day programme again, so we designed something that was also a ‘showstopper!’

A complete design from scratch, with articles and photos on all teams plus stats galore. Another great programme that was well received and great sales.

Matrix Frames in Sheffield had some autographed Formula One caps to be framed and needed a bespoke background to help frame them for a client.

We were supplied a photo of where the caps roughly sat in relation to the frame, along with some source photographs. We then set about creating a montage background graphic in Adobe Photoshop.

We think the final framed caps look amazing on top of the graphic!

Our friends at Matrix Frames in Sheffield asked us to create a bespoke graphic for the Robert Dowd Testimonial auction.

The graphic was to celebrate Dowd becoming the second most capped player in Steelers history. We used cup celebration photos from through the years to create a Top 5 appearance graphic.

This was then framed by Matrix Frames ready for the auction. We love getting to do graphics like this.

We were asked by Abercarn United AFC to design and setup a match day programme for their title-deciding match at the end of the 2022-23 season. This was a huge success, so we were then asked to create their matchday programmes throughout the 2023-24 season.

We created a style based on their black and white striped kits and implemented the monochrome style throughout. Using hints of red from the club’s badge for headings.

The club wanted to have all their season stats included, so we set them up in a colourful way and matched the league’s branding also.

A simple, yet effective design for an organisation on a budget. Great looking design to suit any budget.

We were asked to create the artwork for the Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra’s show programme at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre. Featuring world renowned artistes such as Maureen Nolan.

We utilised the orchestra’s black background style and incorporated the simplified show logo, which we previously designed alongside the full image logos, along with typesetting the biographies.

The UK Charity Allstars weekend was back after the Covid-enforced break, and we were proud to help produce the match programmes again.

The Cardiff Devils wanted some colouring in pages for the kids to do during the Coronavirus lockdown of 2020.

Some good photos were chosen and then they were redrawn as outline for colouring in. Here are some of the pages before and after. Some great colouring in by the fans! 

We were asked to create a selection of graphics to promote the Elite League’s “Covid-19” Elite Series on social media.

This was played in front of an empty arena due to the covid restrictions, so we wanted to make the graphics fun to promote the live streams.

50/50 prize draw and team graphics.

This was a nationwide charity collaboration featuring designers from all over the United Kingdom and some International designers.

The idea was to redesign the 2019-20 football Premier League sticker book with each designer picking a sticker and putting their own stamp on the individual stickers.

I was assigned Danny Rose of Tottenham Hotspurs, so I went with a neon futuristic theme. This section will be updated as and when the book fills up.

Honoured to be a part of this project to raise funds for Foodbanks UK.

Another great charity design project. The Cricket Shouts team wanted to replicate the 2019 Cricket World Cup sticker book, but with new individually designed stickers.

The project was open to all designers from across the U.K. and the World and hopes to raise money for the Ruth Strauss Foundation. A charity raising much needed funds for rare lung cancer research.

I was assigned Kane Richardson of Australia and Lundi Ngidi of South Africa. Here’s my submissions and a few of the other designs.

We were asked to design some stationary for this great business. They supplied the logo and the text and we did the rest!

Promotional leaflets (6pp A4 folded to DL), Vouchers (DL) and Appointment Cards (business card size) all designed in the company colours and branding. All printed by our fantastic print partners.

A great job to be involved in. We love helping promote businesses in the current financial climate.

We were asked to create a new logo for the Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra’s upcoming series of concerts, titled “Back to the Musicals”

The idea was loosely based around the movie ‘Back to the Future’ and the futuristic effect used in that logo. Varying colour options were supplied for use.

We created the logo along those lines and produced two versions for use. One plain logo and one imagery logo, where we incorporated concert photos into the letters.

We then created versions with a background lens flare effect for advertising online and on social media.

Great fun working on this project!

Match programmes for a UK Charity ice hockey weekend. Done free of charge!

They raised over £100,000 for their five charities! Help for Heroes, Mind, Heart Foundation, Ty Hafan and Make A Wish.

Proud to be involved with this organisation. Raising lots of money for some amazing charities.

We were asked to create a new social media advert for Platinum Boilers Ltd. This advert needed to be workable for both online and then in printed format.

We created a design that replicated their existing branding and created A5 size graphics for online and print. We then adapted the graphic to fit the smaller aspect ratio needed for Instagram posts.

Bold design, with the main text details kept as clean as possible for reading online.

Following on from our logo design for this show, we were asked to design some promotional items for use at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre.

We simplified the original logo slightly to fit within the confines of the new layouts. A5 Flyers and A1/A2/A3/A4 Posters created plus bespoke size posters for use on advertising boards aboard trains.

We were asked by WMTO to create a logo for their new show, titled “A West End Affair”. We came up with the logo and then implemented it onto A5 flyers and 2-metre tall pull-up banners.

We used photoshop to create the montage imagery and typeset the details as required.

They were then printed onto silk stock for the flyers and 400gsm PVC for the pull-up banners.

We were asked to update the Blaenavon & District Horticultural Society Show Programmes again for 2022. After the 2-year Covid enforced break they were back for a live event.

We typeset the programme from scratch and updated all the prices and details. We then printed them all on 90gsm uncoated stock and bound with staples.

I was fortunate to have been awarded the 2019 contract. I was tasked with modernising the Playoff Weekend Programme for the UK Elite Ice Hockey League. The Playoffs are the league’s flagship games and fans from all over the UK and Northern Ireland descend on Nottingham for the weekend.

I made the programme as light as possible, ensuring the body of text was legible and the photographs really took centre stage. The pink and blue PredictorBet branding was adhered to throughout.

We were tasked with creating a logo for a new accountancy firm.

There was no specific brief, it just had to be clean and simple. We started by setting up a few ideas in different colour schemes, then after consultation with the client we refined the preferred choices.

We then gave multiple colour choices and then refined even further until we got what the client wanted.

The logo was then designed into letterheads, business cards and compliment slips for printing and online use.

To accompany our programme design we needed to produce some graphics for use online. These were to help promote the programme sales.

We created graphics for use on all the social media outlets and their website. Various aspect ratios were used for optimal performance on the different social media outlets.

The Cardiff Devils Programmes are weekly publications and are designed from scratch each week. Updated weekly for Stats, Teamsheets, Adverts, etc.

The photographs are the main focal point of sports programmmes so these take centre stage where possible. A weekly ‘kids corner’ was designed to add a family element and I created ‘Spot the Difference’ photos and ‘Wordsearch’ puzzles weekly.

The Sheffield Steelers Programmes are weekly publications and are designed from scratch each week. Updated weekly for Stats, Teamsheets, Adverts, etc.

These are much bigger in scale than usual programmes and are a minimum of 52 pages each week. Content in these programmes is very high and always interesting.

We were asked to update their logo for their 10 year anniversary.

We were supplied a sketch, and we supplied a few options back based on their vision. The chosen option was then supplied for print and online purposes.

We were asked to create an end-of-season gift for the junior teams, as a present for each player.

We created a word-art design in the shape of a footballer and then added the club badge, along with individual player names.

These individual posters were then printed onto 200gsm Silk paper ready for framing.

An on-going project for a full set of EIHL player portraits. Using old and new photographs from the EIHL photographers.

The final set was produced into a great looking perfect bound book with a gloss laminated cover.

Following the successfully received Cardiff Devils poster book, I decided to create the same series of designs for the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey club.

The orange jerseys work well against the sepia and grey background, so this series will look amazing too.

Produced into a great perfect bound book with gloss laminated covers and 150gsm silk text pages. 

We were asked to create a logo for a new close protection service.

The brief was to be gold on either black or navy blue background, with the focal point being the letter R. A simple design was required to mirror the businesses ‘no fuss’ style.

We created multiple options from the start and then narrowed it down to suit the client’s vision. We then supplied two background colour options in multiple file formats for print, etc.

A lovely design job!

Promotional adverts for a local independent opticians. The brief was to be bright and eye catching throughout!

New adverts created monthly to suit.

These were advertised in the local press and printed for door-to-door flyer distribution.

A promotional poster for the Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra’s Gala in the Park.

They supplied a photo of the empty bandstand and some on-stage orchestra photos and they wanted to put the orchestra outdoors!

No problem, we artworked the images together and added extra musicians. Then we created a hand painted effect. Text and embellishments added.

This is a one-off programme for the ‘FA Cup Final’ of ice hockey.

I have been lucky enough to design this for several years and I always had lots of fun setting up the front cover designs. These were intended to grab the fans’ attention and get them interested from the get go.

Also, in addition to the programme, we designed online advert ‘headers’ and the game-day raffle tickets. The raffle tickets were sequentially numbered and perforated for use by the sellers.

Using a gold and black option for varying uses by the client. Looking great printed and mounted on the vans too!

Promotional posters for Blaenavon Town Brass Band.

Something classic looking that incorporated the brass instrument shape. A great photo was taken, then converted to black and white for a dramatic feel.

A series of activity sheets for the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey club. These were used throughout the off-season as a way to keep fans interested and to engage with the fans during the ‘down time’

Activities included Dot to Dot, Math Questions, Spot the Difference, Jersey Design Competition and Word Searches.

A great idea by Matrix Frames, using the periodic table as the base for a unique sports idea.

Replicating the periodic table we redrew the whole chart and added the new numbers and letters.

The Elite Ice Hockey League (UK) had its first ever “You Can Play” Pride weekend. The league-wide initiative was embraced by all 10 teams and was a massive success.

I was involved with the Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers and created their special edition matchday programmes.

Some great looking ‘rainbow’ styled covers were designed and a bright, inclusive feel was used throughout.

A great LGBT project to be involved with.
